Michael Johnsen ,Member for Upper Hunter was joined by Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott to inspect maintenance work on the Bulga Memorial Gates Honour Roll.
Singleton City Council received a $3,500 Community War Memorials Fund grant for the replacement of the memorial’s fence.
The Community War Memorials Fund provides grants of up to $10,000 for local war memorial projects, including conservation works and protection. There are two rounds a year each offering $125,000, closing on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
Mr Johnsen said he was proud of the NSW Government’s investment in local and state war memorials, which helps to ensure the service and sacrifice they represent can be understood.
“This funding is part of an impressive program of work happening right through the Centenary of Anzac, including refurbishing the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, rolling out the Veterans Employment Program, and also supporting the Invictus Games this year.”
Mr Johnsen said he was thrilled to see the investment in the Bulga community, which has a proud history of Anzac service.
“Many brave men and women from Bulga served in the Great War, and it’s fantastic to have this beautiful memorial here to commemorate the service and sacrifice of Bulga’s diggers,” Mr Johnsen said.
Michael Johnsen and Minister Elliott were also joined by Ruth Rogers and Doug Hawkins of Quirindi, both who of whom received Ministerial Commendation Awards for their work with veterans in the community.
“It was really wonderful that the Minister could also bestow these commendation awards on Ruth and and Doug during his visit to the seat of Upper Hunter,” Mr Johnsen continued.
“I know I speak for many in our local communities when I say how proud we are of these two recipients, and how our communities truly value the assistance they offer to our veterans and their welfare in our local communities,” Mr Johnsen concluded.
