The ground breaking event saw players from a combined Central Coast/Newcastle, Hastings, Group 4, Group 19, Western and hosts, Group 21, take to Olympic Park with one goal in mind –further representative honours.
As this was their opportunity to impress and gain selection in the Northern squad that will then play Southern on Saturday, April 14.
Coached by Singleton’s injured country forward, Phoebe Desmond, the host side featured plenty of local talent, including Brooke Carter, Ebony Ford, Meagan Casserly, Amber Russell and Ashleigh Noble.
Official pointscores were not kept due to the trial format. Desmond says the girls 8-all draw with Western in their second game was the match of the day. Although pleased with all her players, she made mention of Singleton's Brooke Carter.
“Carter held her own on the day,” Desmond says.
In 2017 both Carter and Desmond were selected to play for the Newcastle Knights in the historic exhibition match against Cronulla during Round 5 of the NRL competition.
CRL female participation officer Kylie Hilder says it was a great opportunity for those wishing to take the next step along the representative pathway.
“It could lead to further honours, not only Country, but also NSW or the Jillaroos,” she explains.
