New owner Ben Callen, partner Kita and their young family have moved up from Weston and are looking to breathe new life into the iconic local watering hole.
“We’re going to make it a family friendly venue, with a focus on good food and entertainment,” Ben said.
“We’ve totally renovated the pub inside and out with all new carpets, painting throughout, furniture and a fantastic al fresco dining area. This place is a Singleton icon and it used to pump in years gone by and we’re looking to restore that tradition.”
Ben has a background in pubs, having ran a pub in Weston before moving up, and before that he worked 15 years in the mines.
“The Imperial’s clientele are a mix of people from mining, agriculture and locals and so I’m really comfortable with the customers and what they like,” he said.
“We want people to come in here and be comfortable, have a drink, a meal and a good time.”
Live bands, DJs and karaoke will be regular features of new The Imperial format, with Karaoke slotted in for Thursday nights, DJs Friday and live music acts Saturday, with a big name live act every month or so.
“We’re sourcing our live music locally and from Newcastle and the Central Coast,” Ben said.
“For example, Feb 17 we’ve got local act Spin Gents playing, then March 10 we’ve got All Access 80s which is an all-80s party band from the Central Coast, and then April 28, we’ll have the Viper Creek Band featuring Troy Kemp, which will be huge.”
Family friendly dining will another feature of the new-look Imperial, with head chef Craig and partner Bridie looking to put his stamp on the fully renovated kitchen.
“Craig’s an integral part of what we’re trying to achieve” Ben said.
“We were fortunate enough to keep him and Bridie on board when we took over and the goal is we’ll be serving restaurant-style meals at pub prices.
“Craig will have his new menu out at the end of the month and it’ll ty in with the family friendly vibe with something to suit all tastes.”
The Imperial Restaurant is also the perfect venue for special events, birthdays, engagements etc and can be tailored to fit any needs.
Just call the pub to inquire.
It’s been a busy time for Ben and Kita, who are juggling all the demands of the pub with new-born Harvey, who is just nine-weeks old.
“I can tell you, we’re feeling it right now but it’s exciting and we’re looking forward to engaging with the community by creating a family friendly environment where you can eat, drink and be merry,” Ben said.
