After taking a scenic tour of the valley, dry as it may be, football stars including the likes of Brad ‘Freddy’ Fittler, Nathan Hindmarsh, Steve Menzies and Ian Schubert stopped in at Singleton Outdoors for their annual ‘Hogs for the Homeless’ charity ride.
The charity tour is raising awareness and funds for youth homelessness, specifically Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets.
The annual ride is ‘Freddy’s brainchild’ according to NRL great, Ian Schubert.
“Freddy has always been involved with helping out Father Chris Riley’s programs and in the past 10 years he’s taken up riding Harleys,” Schubert says.
“So we’ve put the two together and in the past six years we’ve visited over 130 towns and made over half a million dollars in the process. That’s something we’re really proud of.”
Although the visit was in support of charity, talk was definitely focussed on the football field, with Fittler being queried left, right and centre about how he plans to get NSW the top spot in this year’s State of Origin.
“I think the key to winning State of Origin is getting Singleton’s very own Tommy Baker into the squad,” Fittler said, while glancing over to the rising football star.
“Once he gets in there, the team will really shine.”
After chatting and posing for a few photos with the locals, it was time to get back on their bikes and head to Scone for the next leg of the ride.
Singleton Outdoors Manager Shane Givney said he was stoked with the turn out and would like to make the event an annual occasion.
“We’re so happy that the community got behind the cause and in the process raised funds for the Hogs for Homeless Charity.”
