After personally securing funds from the New South Wales (NSW) deputy premier, member for the Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen has hand-delivered a $5000 discretionary grant to the Singleton Track and Field Club (STFC).

The unexpected injection of funds came with an added bonus; the hard-working committee did not have go through the time consuming process of filling out application forms.
Our local member did all the groundwork, including contacting the club to see what they needed.
The club’s pleasantly surprised secretary, Kiera Lawrence, says at present their priority is to upgrade the surface of the running track.
She says it is in dire need of repair.
This is due to the fact Alroy Oval is used by many different sporting groups and thus, the track itself is subjected to a heavy workload.
Mr Johnsen says he contacted the club president, Scott O’Bryan, and other organisations in the electorate to see what assistance was required.
And, as a result Scone Public School and Aberdeen’s Little Athletics Club also received $5000.
“Scone Public School is using the $5000 to upgrade their play equipment,” he explains.
Mr Johnsen says he always willing to advocate on behalf of local community and sporting groups to secure funding.
