A collaborative workshop was held during term one at Singleton Public School (SPS) and in class teachers have been discussing the health benefits of walking and how to do it safely.  

On the day students will also be working through age-appropriate activities on a dedicated website.

SPS WSTSD coordinator Lisa Smith says they have been discussing various safety issues, like being aware of cars reversing out of driveways.

“Another issue we have talked about in class is not being distracted by digital devices, like phones or ipads, while walking near the road,” she explains.

Now in its 19th year, the annual event encourages primary school children to walk and commute safely to school for a number of reasons, including: the health benefits, reducing traffic congestion and air pollution.
