Following a two-day training camp and trial matches in Sydney, St Cath’s students Alex Vaughan and Tim Ryan have been selected in their respective NSW Combined Catholic Schools (NSWCCC) Rugby teams. Both squads will assemble at the Academy of Sport in Narrabeen for a training camp on Friday, June 1 before the All Schools trials begin later that weekend. Vaughan who is currently in Year 12 is the starting openside flanker (no.7) in the U18’s side while Ryan has again made the U16’s team. The Year 10 student will line up in the forwards which is not surprising since he is a member of the Waratahs Trac Tahs Elite Performance Squad and a regular in the junior gold cup competition. From the Hunter Wildfires to NSW Country sides, both boys are seasoned representative players and focused on progressing all the way to the top this year. For Ryan this will be securing a spot in one of the NSW U16’s Gen Blue sides to play at the nationals. But for Vaughan the U18’s schools pathway leads to the Australian Schoolboys or Barbarian team.
