Doing it for our farmers is a new group of volunteers that are dedicated to raising awareness and helping Australian farmers. They have partnered with Aussie Helpers to distribute the donations collected to farmers that are doing it tough.
Samantha Hughes from Kempsey Stock and Land said the community should get behind this cause to help struggling farmers.
“The majority of our community is based on rural sales. Because of the drought and the price drop in cattle sales, it ends up flowing onto the community and businesses in town,” Ms Hughes said.
Ms Hughes said although in the Macleay the drought situation isn’t as bad as out west, it’s still affecting the region.
“People don’t understand why cattle prices here have dropped from $4 a kilogram to $1.50. The drought is affecting people here too but it’s so much worse for people out west and this drive is something we can do to help out, that’s why I wanted to get involved,” Mrs Hughes said.
Drop off points include: Beechwood Post office; Clarence Town Bowlo; Avondale Auto Care, Cooranbong; Earth Body & Soul, Nabiac; Scone Neighbourhood & Resoruce Centre; Toronto Public School; Hunter New England Health, Wallsend; Toronto Public School and Kemspey Stock & Land.
