After a hiatus the association’s junior pathways officers Mel and Chad Vesper thought it was time re-stage the tournament.
However, to attract more young talent they decided to do things a little differently.
Mel says they have opened it up to players from outside the Hunter District.
“We have kids from as far up as Taree coming down to take part so this means we will effectively have two competitions in one,” she explains.
“At this stage we have received 35 entries which is impressive as the Singleton Junior Open attracted about 40 players but there was a lot of prize money on offer during that tournament.”
She says twelve of our most promising local junior players will be vying for the title of District Champion and they will be teeing off from 8:30am on Sunday.
These players include Jasmine Vesper and Charlotte Merrick who recently appeared on the back page of The Argus after making the Combined High Schools (CHC) Hunter golf team and Jasmine is also in the NSW CHS U15’s team that will compete at the nationals.
Along with Taj Vesper, Ethan and Kaitlin Van Zyl, Owen Evans, Max Stone, Brianna Fogarty, Jai Pitcher, Jhye Keevers, Zachary Hayes and Edie Armstrong.
