When completed the non-for-profit community based centre located on Dorsman Drive will be able to offer 40 more places to local families.
Along with increased access and participation for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander families.
As owners of the land it was imperative Council consented to granting a “Mortage of Lease” at Monday night’s meeting in order for the $330 000 upgrade to transpire.
This provides a guarantee that the Pre-school will continue to operate as such for a least ten years.
Director Neisha Dean said after consulting with the community they prepared a comprehensive grant application and secured funding last year.
“We have been busy planning and now a development application can be prepared and lodged with Council,” the passionate director said.
The building works will include a new entry area and staff room, an additional classroom with an associated bathroom and storeroom.
According the Council report prepared by Anthony Egan, the Pre-school successfully applied for a grant totalling $330 00 through the Start Strong Capital Grants Funding Program.
The program is managed by the Department of Education and is aimed at existing not-for-profit community based providers proposing to expand their services where there is a demonstrated shortage.
There are currently 115 eligible children on the centre’s waiting list.

Speaking for the motion, Councillor Val Scott said the Pre-school should be congratulated on their expansion plans.
“Its exciting times ahead,” she declared.
This is the second time such consent has been given after the organisation received grant funding to build a third room in 2013.
The Singleton Heights Pre-school has been serving the community since 1985.
