This annual grant process is done by way of asking the local community (Singleton LGA) to apply for funding for community projects. Over the past six years almost $130,000 has been given back to the local community by way of community support.
Organisations to receive funding recently include the PCYC to purchase a defibrillator, Singleton High School to upgrade their kitchen for the special education unit, SATS to purchase audio equipment and Witmore Enterprises to install lockers.
Monies for the grants come from the event itself and the sale of the artworks and according to the organisers of the Singleton Art Prize there are many quality and reasonably priced works available.
This year’s opening night is Friday July 27 with entries for the competition closing on June 29.
In-coming president of Rotary Club of Singleton On Hunter Sue Ferguson said they would love to see as many entries as possible from younger artists.
“There is $2000 in prizemoney for artists aged 8-18 years – so its worthwhile getting involved,” she said.
This year’s judge will be Mingnon Parker a Sydney based artist living and working from her Northern Beaches home and studio.
The Yancoal Singleton Art Prize has been running for 36 years and is supported by local and many interstate artists, it has become one of the largest NSW art prizes.
It is a painting and drawing show in which all entries are for sale, it is also an acquisitive show with one work being acquired and donated by the Singleton on Hunter Rotary Club to the Singleton collection, which is managed by Singleton Council and now has 90 works of art in the collection.
