Singleton Amateur Swimming Club’s (SASC’s) Billy Moody, Alix O’Bryan, Mackenzie Gray, Alice Small, Rory Gray, Ethan Jones and Maronay Smuts are set to compete 2018 NSW Country SC Championships after excelling at the qualifying event.
On June 16-17 at the Woy Woy Peninsula Leisure Centre, Moody continued his meteoric rise through the junior ranks.
The identified talent, who is a member of the 2018 Swimming NSW Junior Sharks Squad, walked away with seven gold medals, six CVSA records as well as a state record plus a silver medal in the Boys 12 years age group.
While both O’Bryan and Gray - competing in the Girls 12yrs age group - established themselves as serious contenders.
With O’Bryan bringing home two gold, one silver and three bronze and Gray picking up three silver and two bronze medals.
Rory Gray also managed a bronze medal in the Boys 10yrs 50m back stroke event.
Head coach Melisa Geale, says although there were some pleasing individual performances she is also proud of her debutantes that participated in the relay events.
“I knew Billy would swim well as he is in good form but he trains hard and applies himself so it is well deserved,” she explains.
“Alix also did extremely well and Mackenzie was impressive and I expect they will all do well at the country champs.”
However, Geale is also proud of her younger swimmers – Emilia Morgan, Sophie Geal, Zinc Bosco, Liam Byrne, Cooper Bojar, Vincent Lalewicz and Chloe Baldwin – for competing in the relay events at their first CVSA meet.
“It was a great experience for them,” she says.
Moody says he faced some tough competition but “it was awesome having the rest of the squad there”.
A highlight being his new NSW record in the 50m butterfly (27.90) and he only missed the 200m butterfly record by .25 of a second.
