It’s another excellent result for the newly-promoted Roosters.
Singleton, despite poor shooting, won by 17 points 6.16.52 to 5.5.35.
Each club kicked one, then two, then one goal each in the first three quarters, leaving the Roosters a mere six points up at three-quarter time, a perilous position given the Saints were at home and had nothing to lose.
An early Maitland goal brought them within one point of Singleton, but two last-term majors from key forward Jackson Kolatchew saw the Roosters home in the absence of star follower Sam Brasington.
Kolatchew’s three goals were decisive for Singleton, well-supported by rover Alex Mitchell with two.
In a big win for the club, the Roosters best players were Scott Moore, coach Andrew Scott, Jacob Welsh, Mitchell and Oliver Moody.
Singleton 1.8, 3.9, 4.11, 6.16 (52)
Maitland 1.1, 3.1, 4.5, 5.5 (35)
Goals: Jackson Kolatchew 3, Alex Mitchell 2, Brandon Quinn 1
Best: Scott Moore, Andrew Scott, Jacob Welsh, Alex Mitchell, Oliver Moody, Andrew Macpherson
In the GE Women’s fixture played at Hillsborough Oval, Cardiff defeated a dogged and very game Singleton by 27 points, 5.11.41 to 2.2.14.
Singleton was slow out of the blocks, with Cardiff leading by 20 points at quarter-time.
The Roosterettes fought very hard over the next three terms, matching Cardiff’s two goals after quarter-time but never really threatening the Hawks lead despite another excellent performance.
Tori Cowburn kicked Singleton’s only two majors in the match and was one the best players along with Kyah McBride, Neisha Smith, Hayley Frazer and Lynan Scott.
Cardiff 3.3, 3.3, 4.7, 5.11 (41)
Singleton 0.1, 1.1, 1.2, 2.2 (14)
Goals: Tori Cowburn 2
Best: Kyah McBride, Neisha Smith, Hayley Frazer, Lynan Scott, Tori Cowburn, Renee Dietz
Next, the Black Diamond Cup side is at home to the winless Lake Macquarie, while the women travel to Teralba to also play Lake Macquarie as part of the Hunter Haval Black Diamond AFL’s Women’s Round.
