Courtney Stephens, 18, has begun her traineeship in Business Administration with Council, where she will combine a 12-month full-time employment opportunity with nationally-accredited study through Hunter Valley Training Company.

Mayor Moore said the new initiative was an investment in the area’s future workforce, showing trainees that Singleton is more than a starting point – it’s a career destination.

“Youth unemployment and under-employment is an issue facing the Hunter community,” she said. “Expanding traineeships within Singleton Council provides our youth with an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the hope it will increase their employment prospects and give them a kick-start into their future careers.

“These traineeships are not only valuable to the young people receiving them, it also gives Singleton Council new, bright and keen young workers who are willing to learn and grow in their positions.”

General Manager Jason Linnane said he was proud Council was leading from the front in providing employment opportunities for young people.“The Mayor’s Workforce Initiative is a great entry point for local youth to gain vital work experience at the beginning of their career,” he said. “Council boasts a positive and enriching working environment, and supports career development and growth for all our staff.
