Link between Hunter Expressway and Golden Highway edges closer

New England Highway upgrade between Belford and the Golden Highway is moving closer with approval of the environmental assessment and refinement of the concept design. This section of the road has been the site of numerous fatalities and near misses at the intersection of the New England and Golden highways.

The NSW Government is committing $85 million to provide two travel lanes in each direction and a flyover for vehicles turning right from the Golden Highway towards Maitland and Newcastle. Design changes include replacing the proposed U turn facility on the Golden Highway with a roundabout, to improve access for nearby properties and businesses, and building a new access road to the roundabout from the abattoir.
