At the recent 2018 School Sport Australia (SSA) 10 –19 Years Swimming Championship in Hobart he picked up eight gold medals, two sliver and two bronze.
An impressive performance that has again earned him the coveted accolade.
In 2016 after winning every individual race he entered – and in record breaking fashion – Gilson was awarded the same honour at the Darwin SSA championships.
And although he did not break any records in Hobart, Gilson is still pleased with his overall result at the national meet considering his schedule.
“I competed at the Pan Pacific trails two weeks before the SSA championship so I had time off in between events,” he says.
“I am really happy with my performance at Pan Pacs as I was up against Olympians and finished with two bronze medals.”
Meanwhile his medal haul in Hobart consisted of:
- 1st place in the the Boys 16-19 Multiclass 100m & 50m Breast; 100m & 50m Back; 200m Individual Medley; 100m Fly; 4x50m Free Relay and 4x50m IM Relay;
- 2nd place in the 50m Fly & 200m Free;
- 3rd place in the 100m & 50m Free.
