Preparations are well underway for the Witmore Diamond Dance 60th Anniversary on Saturday, October 6 at the Singleton Showground Pavilion.
An informal sub-committee is working hard behind the scenes to ensure it will be a party to remember and they have organised a major raffle to ensure participants can attend free of charge, explains Aimee Hicks.
Aimee works as an administrator in the workshop and says the proceeds from the raffle will cover the costs of staging this celebration of “hard work”.
“Any surplus funds raised will be put back into purchasing items needed for the clients,” she explains.
As the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) means the not-for-profit organisation can be more flexible in terms of service delivery.
If they chose to, participants can now flow between the day-choices program and the workshop.
And, as an organisation, Witmore’s can now offer more one-on-one experiences to their clients.
NDIS co-ordinator Alex Rogers says this includes attending events like NRL matches on the weekend and more day trips to out-of-town destinations during the week.
“We are also doing more in-house care,” she explains.
Although taking a client-centered approach is the norm at Witmore Enterprises, it is the ethos that has always driven the volunteer board and staff.
The dedicated staff will be selling raffle tickets at Gowrie Street Mall in the lead up to the Diamond Dance – from August 22-26 and September 12 -16.
Receptionist Melissa Crowe says first prize is a family trip to the Gold Coast and $1000 worth of flight vouchers.
While tickets for the Diamond Dance are $85 each and this includes: canapes, a two course meal, a beverage package (beer, wine and soft drink) and live entertainment from special guest Troy Kemp, she explains.
To book your tickets email admin@witmore.org.au or call (02) 65 72 2578.
From their humble beginnings in 1958 that involved establishing the Witmore Special School to the construction of the diversified and modern facility that now exists in Magpie Street, the staff hope everyone with ties to the organisation can attend.
