For Jenny Rudder researching the history of the Singleton Junior Rugby League Football Club (SJRLFC) in preparation for their milestone 40th anniversary celebration has revealed some interesting, and quirky, facts. Topping the list is a discovery she made in relation to the Junior Greyhound’s unlikely choice of team mascot in the early years. Jenny – who is a member of the sub-committee formed to organise the event –  says that for a brief period in the early 80’s the club ran with a dinosaur as their team mascot. She hopes talking points like this will prompt many conversations at the formal dinner they are staging while fleshing out the story of this successful club. The Black, Red and White formal dinner is on Saturday, September 29 from 6pm at the Civic Centre and is set to be an entertaining evening. Jenny says not all can be divulged at this stage but the club has produced a number of first grade NRL players and invitations have been sent out to special guests.  Legends like Steve Simpson and Sean Rudder along with Kerrod Holland were a few names dropped. SJRLFC began as its own entity in 1978 after a long and successful association with the PCYC.
