Conducted as part of the first-ever The Singleton Long Lunch, featuring Roger Federer’s and Novak Djokovic’s respective hitting partners Brendan Moore and Kyle Stoker, the event provided a few hours of family fun – and the chance to introduce more people to the sport.
Activities included the Hot Shots program, cardio tennis, a serving speed gun and inflatable target, jumping castle, sausage sizzle, treasure hunt, face painting and show bags, as well as prizes for the participants.
Then, it was time to wine and dine in glorious, sunny conditions.
“It’s a great opportunity to showcase tennis and our initiatives and facilities [at Singleton],” HTA director and founder Gary Brenton said.
“We’re also delighted to have Brendan, Kyle and promising teenager – and top 10 Australian junior – Connor Johnson taking part in a few exhibition matches.
“The skills of the trio are pretty extraordinary.
“I’m sure the local [tennis] enthusiasts will be impressed.
“To be honest, it is a bit of a coup to get these guys here.
“A couple of high-profile tennis officials are in attendance, too.
“We’ll look at doing the expo and The Singleton Long Lunch on a regular basis.
“We’re hosting between 90 and 100 [for the lunch], while the kids’ activities have been well-received.
“We want people talking about tennis in the community – and this is a terrific way to start the conversation.”
