However, for emergency services this also means being alert and prepared for bushfires.
The NSW Bushfire Danger Period is now in force which means a permit from the Rural Fire Service is required for burning activities. This helps ensure fire is used safely and minimises potential dangers.
During bushfire emergencies Singleton Police work closely with our RFS colleagues to ensure that the community is kept safe.
We do this by managing road closures (or open as required), traffic flow and detours, assisting with evacuations and providing a Liaison Officer to the RFS Fire Control Centre at Bulga.
If property is damaged or destroyed or tragically persons killed or injured, police will conduct any investigation for both criminal or coronial jurisdiction.
Strike Force Tronto, located with the State Crime Command is the NSW Police Force investigation and intelligence unit targeting bushfire arson activity.
Unfortunately many fires are deliberately lit and can escalate quickly with catastrophic consequences.
SF Tronto coordinates information supplied by the public about potential arsonists and also assists local police with investigations and specialist training.
One of the strategies used at this time is to identify and interact with local persons who may have committed arson and fire related offences in the past to ensure they don't commit these offences again.
This will hopefully disrupt this activity and provide a safer summer for everyone. If you are aware of anyone who lights fires illegally and or dangerously you are encouraged to report this to SF Tronto via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online www.nsw.crimestoppers.com.au and you can be anonymous.
For further information regarding Bushfire Danger Period and fire permits go to the RFS website www.rfs.nsw.gov.au or contact on 6575 1200.
