Since re-establishing a regular competition and holding two Opens, junior golf in Singleton has gone from strength-to-strength. Proof of this resurgence is the selection of six players in the Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) golf program.

The program develops promising young golfers and assists their progress in game development. While one the club’s junior players Jasmine Vesper, has been a part of the program for three years, in 2018/19 she will joined by her brother, Taj Vesper, Max Stone, Owen Evans, Kaitlin Van Zyl and Ethan Van Zyl.
“There has never before been such a contingent from one rural club in the Academy of Sport squad,” says Jo Evans who is the treasurer of the junior committee.
“They have worked hard to get there and have all competed at different representative levels. We are very proud of these numbers from our little club.”
And, in another exciting development the junior club is in the running for a gong at the New South Wales (NSW) Golf Industry Awards. With a nomination in the junior club of the year category at the inaugural awards.
“We have made it into the final group and are attending the Gala Dinner in Sydney on October 22. We are so honored that someone has thought highly enough of us to nominate us – and absolutely thrilled and surprised to have made it into the final group,” says Jo.
But we would not be here if it was not for our many supporters, volunteers and sponsors.
“I would like to thank Glencore for sponsoring our junior open this year,” she says.
Jo also paid tribute to Colleen and Tony Rock who made the initial move to re-establish junior golf in Singleton four years ago.
