The 11-year-old has been involved in league, union, soccer, swimming and touch football in this year alone, and is now going to the PSSA cricket state carnival in Maitland on November 5.
Her ability to make the team is particularly impressive on this occasion, because she’s never actually played cricket outside of school before.
Despite her lack of experience, Maronay is confident she won’t be out of her depth and is looking forward to the tournament.
“I’m just doing it to have some fun and see how I go in cricket, I’ve only played at school before for fun,” she said.
The fifth grader enjoys batting the most and said that’s the aspect of the sport she is best at.
She is only in the bottom age bracket of her group meaning she has beat out older competitors for the spot, and will have the opportunity to try out again next year if she chooses to.
One thing is for sure, it’s not the last we’ll hear of Maronay as she continues add more feathers to cap, and probably more kilometres to her parents’ car.
