Greta Branxton Colts make Hunter Valley Group 21 Women’s Nines debut against Murrurundi Mavettes

THE Greta Branxton Colts served notice they were ready to tackle the 2018 Hunter Valley Group 21 Women’s Nines Competition following an impressive debut at Merriwa’s No 1 Oval on Friday night.

After missing the first two editions of the tackle format, the Colts enjoyed a 16-all draw with the Murrurundi Mavettes, who posted the equaliser in the dying minutes of the highly-entertaining fixture.

Greta Branxton got the start it hoped for, when Robyn Draper sliced through the rival defence for a 4-0 lead.

Talia Bruce evened things up, at 4-all, for Murrurundi soon after.

Tries to Taylor Quinton-Widl (Colts) and Kimberley Brown (Mavettes) ensured the sides went into the break locked at 8-all.

A brilliant length-of-the-field team effort saw Natasha Colvin dive over in the corner to put Greta Branxton ahead 12-8.

But, Murrurundi refused to surrender, with Megan McLoughlin touching down to tie it up again at 12-all.

When Brooke Davis scored, for a 16-12 margin, it appeared as though the Colts had done enough to prevail.

However, McLoughlin’s second meant the two combatants shared the points.

GRETA BRANXTON COLTS 16 (Robyn Draper, Taylor Quinton-Widl, Natasha Colvin, Brooke Davis tries) drew with MURRURUNDI MAVETTES 16 (Megan McLoughlin 2, Talia Bruce, Kimberley Brown tries)
