MPs in the NSW Legislative Assembly will turn their attention to the NSW Drought Petition at 4.30pm on Thursday.

Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison will introduce the petition before the debate begins.

Three MPs will be able to have their say and the discussion will conclude after 16 minutes.

It comes one week before the last sitting day of the year.

Farmers in many parts of the state are still battling unrelenting drought.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a 70 per cent chance of an El Nino developing in the coming months. If that happened, it would put a renewed drought on top of what is already considered one of the worst in NSW in decades.
