Their years of assistance to the community during times of emergency was recognised this week when Singleton members of Citizens Radio Emergency Services Teams (CREST NSW) received long service awards.

Five of the members had more than two decades service to CREST.
Singleton CREST was founded in 1989 to provide a listening watch on the community channels on the Citizens Band Radio Service, as part of a state wide service. Among their work is advising motorists, especially heavy vehicle operators of road closures which greatly assists other emergency services.
Today CREST is an affiliate member of the Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) and this week’s awards were VRA Service Medals.
Andrew Pain: VRA Long Service Award for 27 years’ service. He joined CREST in 1991. He was instrumental in the installation of the UHF channel 5 emergency repeater being installed at Mt Dyrring and he has also been involved in the RTA Big Bike Rides.
Janice Lawrence: VRA Long Service Award for 25 year’s service. Janice has given service, providing a listening watch on emergency channels on Citizens Band Radio and has assisted in providing communications on numerous community events in Singleton LGA.
Wayne Lawrence: VRA Long Service Award for 29 year’s service. He assisted in the installation of the channel 5 emergency repeater at Mt Dyrring and Wayne continues to support all CREST’s local commitments.
Ken Lane: VRA Long Service Award for 19 year’s service (Posthumous). Ken assisted in providing communications on numerous occasions during emergencies and community events.
Brian Hall: VRA Long Service Award for 23 year’s service. Brian has assisted with communications support on a number of RTA Big Bike Rides and assisted with the installation of the channel 5 repeater at Mt Dyrring.
Greg Bruce: VRA Long Service Award for 23 year’s service. He also assisted with the installation of the repeater at Mt Dyrring, communication on the RTA Big Bike Rides and continues to volunteer his time to the community through CREST.
