Mr Norman passed away following an incident involving his employer’s truck at Bloomfield’s Rix’s Creek Mine in December 2016.
This undertaking will see Bloomfield deliver a number of specific initiatives, including an information campaign to educate the mining and transport sector on truck safety.
Bloomfield will also invest in a mental health program to support businesses to better prepare for managing mental health risks before, during and after a serious incident.
A separate initiative will see Bloomfield contribute funds to the Hunter Medical Research Institute to support research into brain injury treatment. The initiatives are targeted to benefit workers, industry and the wider community and are an effective way of promoting health and safety.
As the WHS undertaking has been accepted, no legal proceedings in relation to the alleged contravention of the WHS Act will be brought against Bloomfield. Bloomfield’s thoughts remain with Mr Norman’s family, friends and work colleagues who have been affected by the tragedy. A minute’s silence was held across Bloomfield worksites on 13 December 2018 to mark the second anniversary of the incident.
