However it summed up Dianne Nowland’s character seconds after she unknowingly landed a hole-in-one when competing in the Singleton Veterans Golf tournament in October.
The prominent golfer was presented with a trophy, in honour of her ace on the ninth hole, by her club captain Rick Walters during this week’s end of year awards ceremony.
“I remember going past the green because I thought it must have bounced further,” she recalled.
“I hit the green but I really thought that it landed a bit further than the pin so I was overwhelmed when I found out it had landed inside.”
Nowland’s name now features twice on the walls of the Singleton Golf Club.
She initially landed a hole-in-one on September 5, 2001 when participating in the ladies competition.
However she insists that this one takes the cake.
“That one 17 years ago was only a par-three whereas this was 162m so I felt that I really achieved something with that shot a few weeks ago.”
MEANWHILE Alf Buckley was recognised as the club’s yearly winner off the back of three monthly titles (see video).
The 63-year-old youngster of the club did not expect his name to be called out for the coveted award considering he was absent for the opening five months of 2018.
Returning personality Col Robinson was also recognised as the monthly winner for December with a net score of 65.
