AgriSkills Training dates are currently being set for Feb/March for fully funded courses kicking off with Chemical Application Accreditation at Wybong on 25/26 February, Scone on 7/8 March, and Cassilis; Farm Fabrication and Welding in Scone; Drones and Farm Mapping in Merriwa; and First Aid training, just for starters. As dates are confirmed flyers will be distributed by email, on Facebook and local press. Registrations are essential for each course with Lynne at Scone TAFE 6540 3201. Report Locust activity on your property to LLS on 1300 795299 - Upper Hunter biosecurity staff are out in the field monitoring Australian Plague Locusts for body condition and checking for signs of egg laying or banding. APL numbers are still relatively very low and although swarming, mortality rate is high due to seasonal conditions. There are many types of grasshoppers around however APL's can be identified by the large dark spot on the tip of hindwings and scarlet hindleg shanks. Body colour can be grey, brown or green with adult body length 25 to 42mm.

Farm Family Gatherings will continue in 2019, along with Connect Morning Teas, Special interest days like bush poetry & old-time dancing, and SOFT (Shaping our Futures Together) and TUFF (Tune up for Farmers) courses through NSW DPI Scone-based rural support worker, Karen Sowter. In addition, the LLS team is planning Seasonal Conditions Updates & MLA workshops.
