Ironically, it would be the club’s second crown that afternoon after the second grade final came to a close a quarter of an hour earlier at Howe Park.
Valley posted 9/147 before midday and would just do enough to hold off JPC in the second innings to record the memorable victory.
“It’s a pretty good feeling,” Valley’s Alexander Belcore said after the victorious side walked over to their fans.
“I did drop a catch so it wasn’t my best performance personally but the boys pulled through and that’s what matters.”
For Belcore the victory proved to be the icing on the cake on what was an eventful weekend starting with his 21st birthday on Friday before a return to the regular format yesterday.
However the 21-year-old was full of praise for all of his teammates and their skipper Jason Newberry.
“Jason was inspiring and he started to put names up of players who had dropped catches so it kept us on our toes in the lead up,” he added.
“And all I want to add is ‘Rally Valley’.”
Final result: Valley 9/147 (Jason Barry 29, Marcus Rowe 28, Preston Miller 1/7, Rick Janssen 1/19) defeated JPC 4/141 (Shane Harman 41, Mardus Uys 22, Mardus Uys 3/21, Luke Dempster 2/24).
