Deputy Mayor of Singleton Council, Councillor Tony Jarrett, spoke to the children and welcomed the Peace Run Team to the district.
In part of his encouraging talk he said “It (the Peace Run) links all of the world together. We are the only ones who can make this world a world of Peace.”
Mr Jarrett was inspiringly echoing the Peace Run message ‘Peace Begins with Me’.
In 2019, for the first time the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run will encircle the entire globe in a calendar year, bringing the Peace Torch to every country of the Southern Hemisphere.
Starting and finishing in Bali, the torch will travel to Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu before commencing its Australian journey in Brisbane on 12 February, following an inland route through central NSW, the ACT and Victoria and finishing in Melbourne.
From Melbourne, the torch will fly to New Zealand, other Pacific Island Nations, South America, Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands before returning to Bali in November.
The team includes runners from Great Britain, United States, Portugal, Ukraine, Brazil, Hungary, Austria, New Zealand, Germany and Australia.
