Head coach Melissa Geale admits she’s excited to see her students compete at Sydney’s Olympic Park with youngster Quinn Baldock making his debut at the sacred aquatic venue.
"Quinn is new to it but we're all about the team aspect and the older guys and girls are there to support him because they know they've got to help out and encourage new and young ones," she explained.
"Country is a great platform for our kids to swim at a good level and we have a lot of kids who have qualified to compete down there in Sydney this week."
“Some kids who previously weren’t able to qualify on their individual merits are now able to do so for their relay team so its a very exciting week.”
She continued, "When one does well they all do well so the team work aspect is something we're proud of."
"They will put more effort knowing its the NSW Country Championships and its wonderful for them in the relay as well because you know you have the flying start and not the gun start."
"They'll also swim a lot faster due to the adrenaline of performing for your teammates which then inspires their individual performances as a result."
Alice Small and Alix O'Bryan have already qualified for April’s national carnival in Adelaide as a result of their respective performances at the state age championship competition last December.
"I was so proud to have seen the look on their faces when they knew they were going to the nationals and I couldn't be prouder of seeing them fulfill their dream," she added.
There will be final qualifying event in Sydney next month with local Mackenzie Gray headlining the hopefuls to join Small and O'Bryan at national level.
