The Yancoal Cadetship program is a strong way to lay the foundations for a career in the resources sector. Students receive a secure employment opportunity prior to attending university, practical work onsite while studying, a chance to develop skills, grow a professional network and financial support.
Taylah Komacha recognised the step up the cadetship program has provided her.
“With a passion for mathematics and science at school and work experience across a few areas of engineering, the opportunity with Yancoal is the perfect fit for me"
“Mining is in my blood with both my father and grandfather working in mining combined for 55 years. I am very excited about the career pathways my study and position at Yancoal can take me in"
“I am an active person away from my studies, doing many things including snowboarding, horse riding, craft, photography and hiking. This drive to give everything my all, I plan to throw into my study and cadetship at Ashton Coal mine"
“I also want to encourage other women to consider a career in mining, it offers exciting roles operating heavy vehicles and machinery as well as senior leadership opportunities,” said Taylah.
Yancoal continues to look for talented people to join its team.
The Yancoal Cadetship program aims to support aspiring mining engineers and is open annually for applications.
Ashton Coal Operations Manager Aaron McGuigan praised the Yancoal Cadetship program.
“Cadets gain personal and professional development opportunities, experiencing the practical side of mining while studying it"
“Despite recent growth, there is still a lack of women in mining so I am very excited to have Taylah join our team and be part of shaping our future"
“Yancoal is Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer so cadets are exposed to a number of key benefits including hands-on experience in mining while being part of a talented team of people,” said Aaron.
