Locals from across the region gathered as one at Burdekin Park this morning to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice at the Dawn Service.

Wreaths were laid at the war memorial by leading town figures Mr Mick McCrone (Singleton RSL sub-branch) and Cnr Sue Moore (Singleton mayor) before members of the public were invited to follow suite.
Singleton based siblings Narnoo and Nevaeh-Rose Cavanagh proudly donned the Aboriginal flag when laying down their commemorative wreath.
It is estimated that 1,000 to 1,300 Indigenous soldiers served in the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War, of whom around 250 to 300 made the ultimate sacrifice.
The ceremony then featured the national anthems of Australia and New Zealand performed by the Singleton Town Band (see video).
