SINGLETON residents are being urged to avoid the Queen Street area on Wednesday afternoon as police continue to search for a man who escaped custody.

NSW Police Media confirmed that a male absconded while under their supervision, resulting in a search with a Polair helicopter assisting.
It is believed he was an inmate at Singleton Police Station.
Hunter Valley Police District officers on hand have asked locals to stay away from the Queen Street, Cambridge Street and Kent Street area until further notice.
