The 29-year-old scored 86 points in his opening ride before suffering a horrific concussion in the final round before concerned onlookers.
"He (the bull) came out and, about two seconds into it, my rope wrapped around foot," Heffernan told the Singleton Argus.
"It is the worst spot you can be in.
He continued, "The second time I was flung I got knocked out and luckily my foot came loose after that."
"I must have told them that 'I couldn't feel my legs' because they cut my jeans off in the middle of the arena."
"I also asked the judges for another bull by which time they brought the medical team straight out."
Amazingly, Heffernan would not to damage a single bone.
He was instead hospitalised with his fifth concussion since turning professional in 2008 before extended his rest period with his partner in Maryborough.
He is due to return to Singleton this weekend.
"This was the worst wreck I have ever had out of the five concussions," he said.
"He kept bucking and I was just like a wet towel in the way he was snapping me into the ground."
Heffernan would still finish equal third in the event and would walk away with 75 title points while fellow national title contenders Aaron Kleier and Lachlan Richardson (who also suffered a concussion) walked away empty handed.
Though he will wait on a second opinion, when assessing his knees and their mobility, he believes he will be fit for the upcoming PBR Monster Energy Origin competition to be held in Sydney on June 1.
"They just said a few weeks off and you'll be right," he added.
"That means Origin is still on the cards as is Canada in July."
