The purpose of the excursion is to provide an educational opportunity for the Upper Hunter community about the coal industry through giving students and their teachers a unique opportunity to see mining operations close up accompanied by factual and unbiased information.
The program has been designed and developed with a team of mine site, teaching, community and local council representatives.
The students were given the opportunity to ask questions about the industry including how big machinery works, what safety practices need to take place on site and how the coal is excavated.
