The four time premiership star proved to be a crowd favourite throughout the one sided affair before leading the boys onto the hill in tribute to the club's past players' day (see video).
"I was pretty passionate about today, to represent all of the old fellas," Gardner told the Singleton Argus.
"Today means everything to them (past players) so that also means everything to us to put on a big performance and the scoreline proves we did just that."
He continued, "All of my life I've called this club home and this is the best day of the year for us.
"You always mark this one down in the calendar."
The 32-year-old veteran also teased the crowd when attempting a late try on the outer wing.
"I was trying to wind back the clock but the old legs couldn't get me back there," he playfully concluded before joining his proud former teammates.
