NSW Department of Planning and Environment has completed its evaluation of the Rix's Creek South Continuation of Mining Project SSD 6300 and referred it to Independent Planning Commission (IPC) - for determination.
The IPC will be holding a public meeting at the Singleton Civic Centre, from 10:00am and they want to hear from as many people as possible.
To be determined is the future operations of the Bloomfield Group's coal mine which the company want to extend the life of by 21 years and extract a further 25 million tonnes of coal.
Bloomfield state the project will provide employment for 255 full time employees and 44 full time equivalent contractors and produce net wages of $21 million injected into the Hunter community annually.
In the Department's final review of the proposal that considered the Commission's review recommendations they say the project is a logical and strategic brownfield extension of the existing open cut mining operations at Rix's Creek South Mine.
If you wish to apply to speak at the public meeting, you must complete an expression of interest form and return it via email to ipcn@ipcn.nsw.gov.au so that it is received by no later than 5:00pm on Wednesday July 24. Written comments are weighed the same as spoken presentations.
