NATIONAL TOUCH FOOTBALL
Twelve year old football fanatic Brandon Cox represented the Hunter Valley at the PSSA NSW State Touch football carnival last August.
The Hunter team successfully won their grand final against North Sydney and were crowned the state champions.
"It was a very surreal day. The whole team were overwhelmed with joy," says Brandon.
On top of this achievement, Brandon was also hand picked from the team to represent NSW at the School Sport Australia National Championships for U12 boys touch football, set to be held in the ACT later this year.
This is a very rare achievement as only twelve boys in the whole state are selected.
"After the state comp I was given the news that they wanted me for the state team which was huge. Straight after our win, we all met up to get our national uniforms and I got to meet some of the boys I will be playing with which was super exciting," Brandon adds.
STATE LEVEL ATHLETICS
Meanwhile, six students have qualified for events at the State PSSA Athletics Carnival set to be held at Olympic Park in Sydney later this year.
Jada Fraser took out first place in the senior girls long jump, jumping a whopping four meters and seven centimeters.
She was the only female to jump past four meters on the day.
Seth Baker qualified for the multi-class shot put, shooting the weighted ball a huge three meters and 16 centimeters.
Dakota Evans, Luca Santry, Maben deSomer and Sophie Stenton took teamwork to the next level smashing the Junior U10's girl relay with a first place time of one minute and three seconds.
The girls have committed to training and will commence training in Glendale this month.
Luca Santry also managed to place equal second in the individual U10's girls 100 meter sprint.
REGIONAL PUBLIC SPEAKING
Year two student Lailah Strahan will compete at the Regional Public Speaking Final next Wednesday in Newcastle.
The youngster is very excited about her speech on 'slime'.
We wish these King Street students the best of luck!
