KRIS Lees looks to have another handy galloper on his books after Bombasay broke through for his debut win at only his second start, taking out the Great Northern Super Crisp Lager Maiden over 1300m at the Muswellbrook Race Club on Monday.

The Rothesay gelding raced very greenly down the straight, but under hard riding by in-form hoop Aaron Bullock, was still able to put more than a length on his opposition.
The Singleton jockey agreed that while Bombasay was very "green" there was plenty to work with.
"It wasn't the easiest ride but it's good to get the maiden win out of the way," he said.
"Obviously he is still learning his trade, he's got a lot of improvement in him.
"You could see that in the run, he wanted to overdo it a bit mid-race and up the running he wasn't quite sure where to go through the line but he's a nice horse."
Matt Curtis, representing the Lees stable, agreed the four-year-old, coming off a trial win at Gosford on September 2, still had plenty to learn.
"He's very green but he got the job done," he said.
"Aaron had to use all his strength to get him over the line, however the horse will take a lot of experience out of that.
"He's had a couple of trials but it's only his second ever race so he will take improvement.
"He's got some maturing and filling out to do.
"But, he's a nice horse."
Bombasay, the $1.90 race favourite, beat Dante Alexander ($26) trained by Jeremy Gask, with another Lees runner, Mister Zee ($11), a close third.
