With catastrophic fire conditions across the Hunter region today and a particularly large fire at Mellong that has led to the closure of Putty Road, arrangements have been made to support people affected, including an evacuation centre.

Evacuation Centre - Putty Road Closure

As a result of the closure of Putty Road, residents will not be able to return to their properties. An evacuation centre has been established at Singleton Diggers at 8 Dorsman Drive, Singleton Heights.

All residents who are unable to reach their homes are encouraged to attend the evacuation centre.

If you are evacuating with small animals, please take them with you to the evacuation centre.

Animal Management

Singleton Showground is also open to accept large animals, Gate 4 is open on Church Street for access. Approximately 40 stables are free. David is the caretaker and can be contacted on 0488 722 424.

With a fire warning still in place, everyone is reminded to follow the directions of the NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Police.

As we continue to experience catastrophic fire danger and with conditions expected to worsen, our first priority is protecting people and I appeal to everyone to take every precaution to stay out of harm's way in these unprecedented conditions.

Singleton Council is doing everything possible to support the NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Police and the emergency services as they lead the response to several incidents in our local government area, as well as across our region.

We are keeping a close eye on the emergencies close to home and I remind everyone to follow the directions of the NSWRFS to ensure your safety and wellbeing.

An evacuation centre has been established at Singleton Diggers, 8 Dorsman Drive, Singleton Heights, for people unable to return to their homes as a result of the closure of Putty Road. Options for animals are also available at the Singleton Saleyards and Singleton Showground. I encourage everyone to use these services if you need them.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is affected by any of the incidents in the Singleton and neighbouring local government areas, and across NSW.

I wish to acknowledge everyone in our community who has accepted and taken action in response to the catastrophic fire conditions today, and the wonderful way the people of Singleton always support each other in times of need.
