Wallawong entries have enjoyed great success over the years at Bonanza including winning the grand champion on the hoof at the 2018 competition. The stud has also won numerous ribbons and championships previously on the hook.
Judging took place at JBS, abattoir at Scone following the live judging at White Park .
In the carcase classes this year Wallawong sired entries were able to achieve the three highest scoring carcases in the competition that attracted 437 entries.
The grand champion carcase came from the unled section and was exhibited by St Marys College, Gunnedah and Groveleigh Partnership.
Weighing 560kg liveweight the entry scored 94.48 points on the hook gaining perfect points for fat cover, meat colour and almost a perfect score for EMA. The entry won the heavyweight and overall jackpot prize.
Runner-up in this section was an entry from Wallawong Premium Beef and H Birchall and the second highest scoring carcase in the competition with 93.41 points.
Perfect fat cover again and also perfect EMA meant the steer scored top markets for saleable meat yield. Wallawong Beef teamed up with St Marys College and H.Birchall again to exhibit the third placed steer in the class with a score of 92.70 - an impressive result all round.
In the lightweight classes St Paul's College Kempsey won the championship ribbon with a Limousin x Droughtmaster steer that scored 88.05 on the hook. Reserve lightweight carcase was a Limousin x Murray Grey steer THLHS and Tom and Julie Morton, Singleton that scored 87.04.
Calroosy Anglican School, Tamworth won the light middleweight championship with their Charolais x Angus steer with the runner-up exhibited by Kempsey High School a Speckle Park x Simmental steer.
Heavy middleweight was an Angus entry from Red Bend Catholic College that scored 91.38 with Swimcreek Porter family entry from Merriwa claiming the reserve ribbon with a Limousin x Charolais steer.
Like the unled section the highest scores were achieved in the heavyweight classes with a Limousin x Angus shown by St Joseph's High School Aberdeen winning the championship ribbon with a score of 92.59 points. An Angus entry from Pymble Ladies College won the reserve champion ribbon with 92.012 points.
