Leaflets were printed first in house and then with the assistance of local real estate agent LJ Hooker to distribute throughout the business and local community.
Postie, Kristy Abernethy said while delivering mail in John Street she was speaking to businesses and they were keen to support the RFS as it battled the fires.
"From there we decided to get the message out in the community that the volunteers fighting these fires needed our support," she said.
"It has been amazing how people were keen to help and make donations.
"We are happy to keep receiving donations until Christmas as our first crate of donations has gone out to the volunteers."
Hunter Valley RFS group officer Fred Turner wanted to thank everyone who donated goods which he said will be heading to those fighting the Gosper Mountain bushfire.
"Its a big fire that will take some time to control," he said.
Commenting on the bushfires this spring Mr Turner said a team from the district headed up to the Hillville - Rainbow Flat fire on the Mid North Coast earlier this month.
He said in his nearly four decades of firefighting he had never seen a fire like the one they encountered at Rainbow Flat.
"Sadly despite everyone's best efforts we saw 11 houses destroyed in seven hours. It was a fire storm like none of us they have seen before."
