SDCA OFFICIAL STATEMENT (10AM): A decision has been made due to current air quality being poor, that all cricket in Singleton & Denman is off today.
The announcement comes less than 24 hours after the Singleton Council cancelled the town's annual 'Christmas on John Street' celebrations.
"This is the first time this happened in Singleton due to fires in close proximity," SDCA treasurer Daniel Storey told the Singleton Argus.
"Whilst we do everything possible to have the games on, player welfare is paramount, especially with recent incidents in surrounding cricket areas."
As a result, today's opening round won't be rescheduled.
All teams will be splitting points (as if it was a wet weather round).
Yesterday the Upper Hunter received 11 air quality alerts (nine in the Singleton LGA) adding to a total of 841 for 2019.
This morning all 14 air quality monitors in the Upper Hunter are recording hazardous air pollution but no alerts have been issued.
