Mark Ihlein, Council's Director Planning and Infrastructure Services said key additions for stage one was the new play equipment and updated amenities including electric barbeque, bike racks, drinking fountain, tables and shelter.

Mr Ihlein said the first stage of works would address the community's priorities for the park, namely the return of a playground.

"Townhead Park is an important site for Singleton and the local government area because of its strategic gateway location on the New England Highway and the obvious attraction of the Visitor Information Centre and café as a rest stop for tourists," he said.

"What was reinforced through the community consultation process when developing the Masterplan in 2018 is that Townhead Park is also a significant facility for local residents, particularly as the Singleton Visitor Information Centre functions as a Council Customer Service Centre. Not to mention the café and facilities for families make it a great place for people to meet and play.

"There have been a lot of comments from the community since unsafe play equipment was removed from the park in 2017, and Council has acted to make the funds available to replace the playground in the first stage of works.

"Singleton is fast becoming a destination for playtime with the success of the newly upgraded Rose Point Park playground and Riverside Park, and Townhead will be no exception with equipment including a multi-play unit, carousel, double swing, star surfer, horse springer, hammock and shade, plus seating and a barbeque area for the whole family to enjoy.

"This is just stage one of the Masterplan with a lot of exciting additions to come - including the relocation of the bike track in view of the café, a new sensory garden and the Arts and Cultural Centre, all of which will further encourage motorists to take a break while discovering the attractions that are available in the Singleton local government area."

Stage one of construction is funded through Section 7.11 development contributions and Special Rate Variation funds.

Site works are scheduled from 21 January 2020 through to 10 March 2020, weather depending.
