Foord hat-trick fires Matildas to big win in Campbelltown

Caitlin Foord, you star.

The crafty forward fired home a hat-trick and gave Arsenal fans a taste of what to expect on her UK arrival as the Matildas sealed a thumping 7-0 win over Chinese Taipei on a rainy Friday night in Campbelltown.

The Foord masterclass, in front of a small but vocal crowd, helped the Matildas move one step closer to Tokyo 2020 qualification.

Steph Catley, Hayley Raso, Sam Kerr and Katrina Gorry also scored for the winners.

Foord, 25, completed her hat-trick before half time. It took 38 minutes, to be exact.

Taipei controlled field territory in the opening minutes but it didn't take long until the Matildas wrestled back ascendancy.

A lovely assist from Kyah Simon helped Foord open her account after nine minutes.

Australia continued to press hard but were unable to capitalise, despite some great efforts from Raso and Emily van Egmond.

Some sloppy defending in the 24th minute then opened the door for Foord to slot home her second to give the Matildas a 2-0 lead.

Seven minutes later, a lovely van Egmond flick pass set up Steph Catley to find the back of the net before Foord completed her hat-trick in the 38th minute.

The Matildas led 4-0 at half time.

The home side had missed opportunities after the break. In the 55th minute, Raso found some space, danced around the goalkeeper and scored to help Australia take a 5-0 lead.

Hayley Raso finds some space, dances around the goalkeeper and nails it home to take a 5-0 lead in the 55th minute.

Foord nearly made it four goals with a super strike towards goal, which was well stopped by the Taipei keeper.

There was a huge roar from the crowd when Kerr entered the field i in the 62nd minute and she didn't take long to impress, finding the back of the net three minutes later as the Matildas took a 6-0 advantage.

Australia continued to press hard, but Foord's night was over when she was subbed off in the 75th minute.

A late goal by Gorry blew the final margin out to 7-0.

Australia will next take on Thailand in another Olympic qualifier in Campbelltown on Monday night.
