The cattle parade ground was a lush green reflective of recent rainfall in the district and despite Maitland Show holding a reputation for attracting rain this year the sun shone for the two day event.

On the Friday there were 100 competitors for the junior cattle judging classes and 28 Trade Led Steers/ Heifers exhibited. Many of the Students also competed in the NSW Agricultural Societies Council Paraders event and then in the Maitland Show age division paraders competitions.
On Saturday there were 40 head entered for stud beef with our numbers reflecting the severe seasons that all producers have been having." But as usual the standards of all were very high," said competition chief steward, Leonie Ball.
Supreme exhibit of the show was the Murray Grey female Glenliam Farms Greymist N26, exhibited by the Sutcliffe family, Scone who operate Compass Creek Murray Greys.
Born in February 2017 Greymist N26 was paraded with her first calf at foot Compass Creek Greymist Q1 and was the senior champion interbreed female before winning the top title.
Junior champion interbreed bull was the Speckle Park entry Hillview Cliff shown by the Bendiech family, Hillview Speckle Park stud, Branxton. The junior interebreed heifer was a Charolais entry Tractor Prim, exhibited by Yendarra Charolais.
Justin Richards' Pentire Angus stud, Singleton paraded the best group of the show and best pair of females.
Best pair of bulls also went to the Angus breed - Boambee Angus stud, Seaham owned by the Duncan family.
Champion Trade Led Steer was shown by Tractor Charolais Stud and paraded by Josephine Green.
In tough competition the champion junior judge was Merriwa's Caitlyn Porter.
St Catherine's Catholic College, Singleton's Georgia Urquhart won the Intermdiate junior judging, and was part of the school team of herself, along Amelia and Matilda-Jane Sternbeck, who came 2nd in the team judging competition.
First place in the team results went to Mount Pleasant Public School whose team members included the winner of the primary section William Schaefer. Third placed team came from the Hunter Valley Grammar School.
