Ausgrid an electricity distribution company which owns, maintains and operates the electrical networks supplying customers in Sydney, Central Coast and Hunter region was already facing criticism for its slow response to repair power supplies to customers during last month's storm.

Documents have exposed the Singleton, Muswellbrook, Beresfield and Wallsend depots will be impacted. The critical roles being cut include Field Managers and Supervisors, Overhead Working Leading Hands, Distribution Lineworkers, Distribution Joiners and Technicians.

An Ausgrid spokesperson said the document formed part of an old restructure that was already complete.

"As part of a restructure of our business 360 employees were offered voluntary redundancies and exited Ausgrid before the end of 2019," they said.

"This included the 41 positions identified in this document."

Labor Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change Adam Searle said he was outraged the Premier had no plans to address this. "The Premier has failed NSW on Electricity. That was very clear when Ausgrid failed to deliver the basic service of powering homes and businesses," Mr Searle said.

"Gladys Berejiklian tried to cover up her shortcomings by falsely claiming Ausgrid has more jobs than before it was privatised. Instead of lying to the people of NSW, she should be stepping in to save these jobs."

Labor Shadow Minister for Rural and Regional Jobs Yasmin Catley said: "The loss of some 500 jobs across regional NSW will be a devastating blow to the towns and communities which those workers call home, and the Nationals must be held to account for being complicit every step of the way."

Labor spokesperson for the Upper Hunter John Grahan said: "This Government has continuously failed the Upper Hunter. After falling short on election promises, it's now going to let 11 important positions be slashed at Ausgrid. It's disgraceful."
