750 head of cattle were penned at last Thursday's regular Fat Sale & Market Day where the export market made a jump of 20 cents per kilo with young cattle still continuing to sell firm.
- Bulls sold to a top of 298c/kg
- Light black calves topped 525c/kg
- Light veal topped at 520c/kg and averaged $419/head
- Medium veal topped at 472c/kg and averaged $396/head
- Heavy veal topped at 436c/kg and average $381/head
- Light heifers topped at 410c/kg
- Restocker cows topped 334c/kg
- Best cows topped 292c/kg and averaged $265/head
- Steers up to 400kg topped 416c/kg
Singleton
Numbers decreased marginally to 630 head for a mixed quality penning of mainly younger cattle, with the majority suitable for the restocker orders.
There were low numbers of the prime conditioned younger cattle to suit the butchers, while the cows were also limited in number. The market trends were variable, restockers both at the sale and online competed.
The over 200kg vealer steers returning to the paddock eased 10c and sold from 398c to 480c/kg. The same weight heifer portion also to the restockers remained firm and received from 390c to 438c/kg.
The yearlings to the restockers and lot feeders sold to solid competition, with only breed and quality contributing to any price variations, with the steers making from 340c to 414c depending on weight, while the heifer portion sold from 332c to 400c/kg. The prime younger cattle to the butchers reached 420c/kg.
The best grown heifers to the processors reached 342c/kg. Cows were plainer this week and prices trended cheaper, with the 1 and 2 scores medium weights making from 242c to 248c, as the better finished pen reached 255c/kg.
Scone
Consignments decreased marginally and the quality remained fair to good, with the majority younger cattle suitable for the restockers and lot feeders. There were numbers of prime conditioned younger drafts suitable for the butchers, while the cows were limited in supply.
The restockers were again competing strongly ensuring the market trend for the younger cattle was firm, however the plainer cows eased 4c/kg. The over 200kg vealer steers to the restockers sold from 400c to 488c/kg.
