With the Bengalla Hunter Valley Group 21 Rugby League season postponed, due to coronavirus (COVID-19), the club is linking up with the inaugural Newcastle and Hunter Community Rugby League, which kicks off on July 18.
The Colts will field an all-age outfit, captain-coached by Foran, as well as an under-18s (Mark Bercini) and league tag (Alex Kowalski) in the revamped format.
"It's a great concept," the former Melbourne Storm, Auckland Warrior, Sydney Rooster and Manly Sea Eagle said.
"It was a bit disappointing when Group 21 pulled the pin on 2020; however everyone understands the reasons, especially in this current climate.
"But, we wanted to keep the boys keen.
"So, the Colts put up a poll to gauge the players' interest in the new comp.
"Most of them were eager to play.
"We trained well in the off-season, and worked hard on our fitness, and won our last hit-out before COVID-19 struck.
"The guys beat Woy Woy.
"And, even though it was only a trial, a win's a win."
Foran knows a thing or two about success.
He's contested the past three Group 21 grand finals with the Aberdeen Tigers, claiming the 2017 premiership from the Muswellbrook Rams and earning the man of the match plaudits.
While the Scone Thoroughbreds prevailed in the following seasons, Foran took out the 2019 Group 21 Player of the Year and Halfback of the Year honours.
"I'll admit, it was one of the hardest decisions leaving the Tigers," he said.
"However, I'm excited about the challenge that awaits me.
"Now, I'm determined to re-establish Greta-Branxton as a force to be reckoned with in Group 21.
"We'll go into this season with a new attitude - nothing but optimism.
"It will be a strong competition, so we can build on that for 2021.
"I want to instill a positive belief in the team.
"Some of our signings, like Marvin Filipo and Steve Gordon, have committed to play, too.
"So, I'm sure we'll be competitive out there."
